Community Leaders Pointlessly Performing Kick All on VT!

Category: the Rant Board

Part of a community leader's role is to endorse good behavior between Zone BBS members. In compliance with this aspect of the CL position, individuals who are subject to the title's restrictions should refrain from:

It is amusing, if you don't like it don't log on, get your own vt server.

I've only tried VT a couple times. So what is a "kick all" command?

Post 5 by Gracesong (Zone BBS is my Life) on Monday, 09-Oct-2006 23:17:47

Well, but certain restrictions were put into place for a sole purpose. I don't know the situation, but with the power that a leadership position gives, there must also be present a certain sense of responsibility. Can you demand that a police officer not arrest people just because there were people who didn't like to be arrested? Furthermore, can you tell someone as you're passing by a field of skunks who have just, well, you know, releived themselves, "if you don't like the smell, don't breathe."? Yes, while we can avoid certain annoying behaviors, there still must remain in all of us a sense of respect and responsibility toward each other.

Becky a kick all command, is when an Admin or CL log ons and kicks all of the VT users off of the server. Normally this has been done just for the hell of it, and yes I have been on there and ended up being the one that gets kicked. A pain in the ass yes.

Thanks for the warning, I had a good mind to get back on there, but in light of the post, I'm gonna have to say no thank you. I've always found it cleakish anyway.

Post 8 by lights_rage (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 10-Oct-2006 3:34:02

Bt is a clique setting it seems and i hate it too when people just go on there to act stupid.

I don't see the problem. I mean, I never really mind it. Unless you're in the middle of something important, it's not realy a big deal. get over it? It's just a bit of harmless fun. :P

fun? yeh right. it's power tripping and it's ridiculous!

i've been kicked before, but i just reconnect

Something tells me that if a regular user somehow managed to kick someone off and this was reported to the CL's and admins, that person would be in big trouble and the argument "it's just a bit of harmless fun" would not fly. So how come the CL's can act like jerks if they come down on regular zoners for doing stupid and "fun" things?

And I agree about VT being cliquish. That's why I've never gone back after a couple attempts.

Firstly not guilty okay? lol.

But I do agree about there being a sense of responsibility that comes with the job so I'll raise this issue on the staff list. Though I will just state that it is done for fun and not to be mean. Us CL's are human after all and just as wont to get carried away from time to time so while I do completely understand that this can get annoying, please don't blow it out of all purportion as some have on here by saying that they'll never go to ventrilo again. It's not like it happens every 5 minutes.

Never the less, if people do find it this annoying, then it should stop.

Thanks. Dan.

well come on dan it is stupid, i mean why are the cl's doing it in the first place, so-called fun? lol where is the fun in getting kicked from somewhere for no reason, ok connection problems is 1 thing but if that's what the cl's call fun then they are no more than deranged morons who shouldn't be in that possision in the first place.

Several points:

Post 16 by Harp (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Tuesday, 10-Oct-2006 15:31:06

Just to clarify Kai, I wasn't directing my 5 minute comment to you. Just those users that said that they'd never go near Ventrilo now because of this issue.

Also I have posted a message to the list and others have agreed to desist with this behavior. Fear not, your tyrannical CL's have been admonished and reeled in! *LOL*

Please lets not get carried away with this issue though. Everybody has a different idea of what is and isn't funny. Honestly I feel sure that anybody doing this was only doing it as a bit of fun and not to upset users. Now that we know that people aren't finding it fun it will stop.

Thank you. Dan.

Becky, general users aren't able to kick anyone, only those who are cl, or admin can do so.

I hope it doesn't stop altogether as it is kind of amusing, but it's become rather predictable. It's almost every time certain people join, but they aren't the only one's, there are others who do predictable things which are just as irritating, like for example, people who play the same binds every time they are on the server. Most of the binds created by people are funny, but to have to hear them several times every day, is just as irritating to me, as having someone come on and use a kick command. but like anything, it's part of life, we're not going to change those people, so lets just get on with it, and do our best to keep enjoying it.

Becky, you should come back on vt, and give it a real try. you're reasonably intellegent from what you show on the zone, so shouldn't really have a problem making good friends with the regular group on there. You could become part of that clique.

Post 19 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Sunday, 15-Oct-2006 8:58:03

Kevin, I know that general users can't kick others off, I was just trying to make a point.

And as for the other thing you said, thank you. However, I seriously doubt if I'll come on VT. I obviously can't do it when I'm at work, and when I'm on the zone at home I am often doing other things and don't really want to try to talk on VT again.

Post 20 by Austin (the magic fan!) on Sunday, 15-Oct-2006 11:37:56

well i never see this shit happen. if you don't like it, get your own vt server! I saw it once but that was it. it's all good dude! I don't even go on the zone server much anymore because i have to much to do like manage a radio station and things of this nature!
